ED7601 2021 (T2) Second Language Acquisition and ELT (OC)

ED7601 introduces you to wider considerations of the different components of the English language to develop your awareness of how the language operates in different domains: at the level of the mind and at the level of interaction. The module reviews the major theories of learning second languages while making comparisons between the biological, psychological, and social aspects involved in this venture. You will read about how learning a native language (L1) differs from learning an additional one (L2) and how individual differences such as age and aptitude affect this process. The main purpose of this module is to make a synthesis between the contributions of second language learning theories and their application within a classroom environment.
